BVGS Meal Out Monday, November 3, 2025

Botna Valley Genealogy Society will be finishing out the 2025 Genealogy Year with our annual "meal out" outing coming up Monday, November 3, 2025.  We will plan to meet at 11:30 a.m. at BARLEY'S, a local bar and grill in the heart of Council Bluffs, Iowa.  Barley's is located at 114 West Broadway.  You can check out their website by clicking on:

After we eat, Kandis would be happy to have us come to the West Pottawattamie County Genealogy building for a tour and/or research.  Known as the Frontier Heritage Library, it is located at 622 South Fourth Street in Council Bluffs.  Their website can be accessed by clicking on:

I will leave all transportation arrangements up to each individual.  If you want to carpool with someone, please get in touch with them.  This sounds like a fun excursion, so I hope a lot of you will plan to attend.  Please let me know your intentions.

We still need to follow-up on the info and photographs of the Turner Family Genealogy Collection given to BVGS.  IGS in Des Moines will be happy to receive the collection to have it available there.  A time will need to be determined to transport the collection to them.

We have been so blessed by the memorial donations received from the Sternberg Family in memory of Mary Sternberg who played such a vital role in our Society during the many, many years she was a member ~ clear up to her passing!  Two memorial plaques have been put on the BVGS Donor Board for those donations.  Progress has been made on using this memorial money to digitize seven reels of Carson newspapers beginning 7/16/1880 and ending 8/8/1918.  We are still eagerly awaiting these to be available to researchers in early September thru Advantage Archives!  We would like to alert you to the fact that more of the Avoca newspapers are available for research at Advantage Archives.

Members are encouraged to work in the Genie Room any time the Library is open on projects that need done.  Check with your President if you have any questions as to what can be done.

Old Business:  Just a Reminder:  Since most all of our members have Internet and Email access, it was voted that we send out the newsletter as a .pdf file in an email to all members.  Also, there is a link on this website to the current newsletter PLUS complete issues back to 2013.  Anyone wishing a printed copy would be able to print their own from either the website or the .pdf file.  We will send out newsletters to those few individuals who do not have Internet/Email access.  They will be printed in our Genie Room.  It was voted that the newsletter continue thru year 2022.  (Last newsletter printed was June 30, 2023.)

Colleen, I have posted an ad in reference to the Orphan Train that stopped in Oakland in 1904. It is under the tab "Blog/News." Let me know if that is what you were wanting to look for. Barb

Would there be an opportunity for me to visit the genie room to search for information about an orphan train stop in Oakland? Thank you!
