If you check out the link above under "More" entitled "Buy Our Publications" which contains the resources we have for sale through "Iowa Genealogy Society," all of those resources are available for you to look through in our Genie Room.  As you can see when you look through the listings, there are indexes for burials for all of the cemeteries in Pottawattamie County except the ones in Council Bluffs.  There are indexes for marriages that took place in both the Council Bluffs Courthouse and the Avoca Courthouse.  We also have a card file of the information from each of those marriage records.  We have indexes to the people who were enumerated on the 1885 and 1895 Iowa censuses.  We have some naturalization record indexes and also some probate indexes.  These are all available for your browsing if you visit our Genie Room at the Oakland Library.

In this corner of our Genie Room can be found a number of three-ring binders we have put together with various Pottawattamie County Iowa obituary indexes, obituaries, funeral memorial folders, marriage indexes, some birth records, and newspaper articles that featured a person each week. On the top shelf are all of Marcella Caughell's genealogy records on the Isaac and Caughell families and their ancestors. Marcella Caughell generously donated the money to build the Genealogy addition to Eckels Library in memory of her husband Floyd.

Would there be an opportunity for me to visit the genie room to search for information about an orphan train stop in Oakland? Thank you!

Colleen, I have posted an ad in reference to the Orphan Train that stopped in Oakland in 1904. It is under the tab "Blog/News." Let me know if that is what you were wanting to look for. Barb

If you give me your email, Lori, I will send you a newspaper article that has a bit of info on Andrew - but it is not an obituary.

I am not sure. He enlisted in the Union Army as a Physician on 28 Feb 1864. His records from Preston Co. WV are presumably destroyed by fire.

Lori ~ Do you think Andrew died in Council Bluffs or in the service during the Civil War? I see he is buried in the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland.

Diane (cont.) - Can't believe it had the March 13, 1914 issue in it. Please remit our minimum fee of $10 to BVGS, PO Box 693, Oakland, IA 51560-0693 with the address to mail it to.

I would like the obit for Louisa Brown which was in the Botna Valley News on March 13, 1914, page 1. I am happy to pay any fees. Or please let me know what library might have this obit. Thank you!

Barb

Diane - I have a copy of the obit for you! We do NOT have Botna Valley News, so I looked in the Oakland & Carson papers with no luck. Then I discovered we had ONE box of Botna Valley News. (cont.)
